Shan Bruce started bagging groceries for 30 cents an hour when he was 11 years old. Being in the grocery business was a way to make a little extra money.  Now it is a family legacy.  Who knew 46 years later that Bruce's Foodland would be in five cities in North Alabama. Who knew Bruce's Foodland would have such a huge impact on the communities in which they service?  What Shan Bruce did know...is that hard work was the secret to success.  Shan credits his father D.B Bruce for his work ethic.  You may still find Mr. Bruce working in the Ft. Payne store!

They say behind every successful man is a woman pushing him every step of the way!  In the Bruce family, the woman has been right by Shan's side.  Shan's wife Connie has definitely been a big influence in the success and quality of Bruce's Foodland.  From working in the administrative office to raising their two sons Michael and Eric, Connie's contribution to the success of this family owned Grocery chain has played a key role.  Strong family values are evident in the moral fabric of this company.

Family values and work ethic  have been passed on to their sons: Michael and Eric Bruce.  The boys grew up in the grocery business and appreciate the values instilled by their parents.  Michael Bruce, who was named CEO of the company last year at the onset of the 26th Anniversary of Bruce's Foodland, will utilize the principles his father instilled while maintaining a pattern of growth and development for the successful grocery company.  Michael and Eric plan to build on to the legacy their father built for them...providing for future generations of the Bruce family.

Bruce's Foodland is more than a grocery store in small town Alabama.  Bruce's Foodland is an icon of the American Dream.  Hard work leads to success.  Family does matter.  Home owned and operated still wins out over "big corporate stores."  Bruce's Foodland will dedicate itself to the very best grocery product at the very best price, and always the very best service.  They contribute thousands of dollars each year to local athletic and charity programs, are a significant force in the economy with the people they employ and are the long lasting cornerstone of the American Business.  We hope you'll join us in keeping Bruce's Foodland around for another 27 years!
